Habitat and Distribution
It occurs naturally in the Atlantic coasts of Central America. Also it grows in some parts of South America.
Description
A very nice palm, up to 6 meters. It have enormous entire leaves (up to 6 meters). Inflorescence can reach 1 meter long. The fruits can contain 1 to 3 seeds; they can a rough surface full of tubercles. The seeds can float in the water for a long time, until they reach an appropiate place to germinate.
Culture
These palms tend to grow in swampy areas.
Curiosities
The leaves can be used as sails for canoes.
